So awkward you can feel it in the air -
thick and heavy
or so we've been taught
think again

you can still feel it in the air -
bubbling, electric
it expands as the pause in the
conversation continues
brewing with potential - a smile
creeps around the mouths
do you speak first? wait, do we stop
and slip back into our routine caves?
what if someone sees this untapped
s y r u p

awkwardness is a sign of a connection
beginning
trial and error as it finds its way
through the air

the smile fully consumes the mouths
only time will tell if the connection forms again
but that's tomorrow's time
now
the air still tingles and sways
with excess oxygen and nervous laughter
